U.S. Embassy Chief Counsellor Alyce Abdalla and U.S. Consul in Adana Eric Mehler addressed the guests, mentioning this historic milestone, as well as the long-standing friendship and partnership between the U.S. and Türkiye, which will celebrate 100 years of formal diplomatic relations in 2027.
Chief Undersecretary Abdalla said, "Tonight, we celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, the nearly century-old US-Turkey friendship and our strong partnership that has lasted for years."
Abdalla, who arrived in Türkiye at the beginning of August, also talked about his recent contacts in the Consulate's mandate. In this context, he referred to his visit to Hatay to see the progress of the US Ambassadors Cultural Heritage Conservation Fund project, which supports the restoration of the St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Antakya, which was damaged in the 2023 earthquakes.
Abdalla also drew attention to the long-standing importance of Incirlik Air Base in US-Turkey security cooperation. Stating that the NATO Summit held in Ankara recently demonstrated the importance of this cooperation, Abdalla also emphasized the common goal of the two countries to increase the bilateral trade volume to 100 billion dollars.
Guests also had the opportunity to visit the Founders of America Museum exhibition, which tells the story of American independence and the names who played a role in the founding of America, as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
